Building Houston’s Future with Innovative Concrete Solutions
Bomanite Houston is proud to have played a key role in the transformation of Rice University’s newly redesigned campus quad, an integral part of the university’s effort to create a central gathering space for students. As a centerpiece of the campus, the quad is now a vibrant hub, welcoming students to engage, relax, and connect.
Project Overview
The newly designed quad at Rice University is a major focal point for the campus, connecting academic and residential buildings while serving as a multi-functional space for events, studying, and socializing. With a vision of creating a space that is both beautiful and durable, Bomanite Houston was selected to provide top-quality concrete solutions that would not only enhance the aesthetics of the quad but also ensure its longevity and resilience under heavy foot traffic.
At Bomanite Houston, we understand that a campus like Rice University needs spaces that can stand the test of time while reflecting the university’s unique character. For the quad, we utilized a variety of innovative techniques to achieve a sophisticated and durable finish.
Type 1: A cream integral color was used, with decorative aggregates added to the concrete and seeded to the surface, giving a textured and elegant look.
Type 2 & 3: A blend of Cream and Sonora Tan color hardener was applied, along with three different types of decorative aggregates. All types were exposed using a sandblast method, creating a beautiful, textured finish. The total area of this work spans 40,000 SF.
Our expertise in polished concrete and exposed aggregate finishes ensured that the quad would not only be visually appealing but also practical for the daily use of thousands of students. The result is a sleek, inviting surface that elevates the campus experience.
With Bomanite Houston’s contribution, the new quad is quickly becoming a central destination on campus, providing a versatile space for students to gather for activities, events, and everyday relaxation. This redesign is part of Rice’s broader vision to create more interactive, communal areas for students to connect outside of the classroom.
Rice students have already embraced the new campus hub, and the concrete work plays an important role in making the space accessible, durable, and ready to withstand the heavy traffic it sees daily.
The collaboration between Bomanite Houston and Rice University on this project reflects our ongoing commitment to creating dynamic and enduring spaces for educational institutions. We’re proud to have contributed to the revitalization of such an iconic part of Rice’s campus and look forward to continuing to shape spaces where students and communities thrive.
