A Warm Welcome at Jack’s Café
The concrete surrounding Jack’s Café features a rich Brick Red color paired with an exposed aggregate finish. The warm tone complements the architecture while creating an inviting transition between the café and the surrounding zoo environment.
Exposing the aggregate gives the surface greater visual depth than conventional concrete. Natural stone becomes part of the finished appearance, introducing subtle variation and texture across the pavement. The result feels refined without appearing overly formal – an ideal balance for a family-friendly hospitality space located within a major public attraction.

Bomanite Houston created the surface using hand-seeded gravel and a full exposed aggregate finish. During this process, selected aggregate was carefully distributed across the surface of the concrete before being exposed to reveal the natural texture and variation of the stone.
Hand seeding allows greater control over the appearance of the finished surface, helping create a consistent distribution of aggregate while preserving the unique character of the material. The full exposure brings the stone forward visually, producing a highly textured finish that complements the natural qualities of the reflection pool.
The combination of gravel, concrete, and water creates a layered landscape experience that feels intentional from every angle.

Although Jack’s Café and the reflection pool serve different functions, the decorative concrete helps create a cohesive relationship between them.
